Odisha school summer vacation 2026 will begin earlier than expected as the state faces a severe heatwave. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced that all schools in Odisha will remain closed from April 27, 2026, to protect students from extreme summer temperatures.

The decision was taken after a proposal from the School and Mass Education Department. The government said student safety is the top priority as many parts of Odisha are facing very high daytime temperatures.

Odisha School Summer Vacation 2026 Announced for All Schools

This early summer vacation will apply to all government, government-aided, and private schools across the state. With the heat becoming stronger day by day, the Odisha government has acted in advance to reduce health risks for children.

Hot weather can cause dehydration, tiredness, and other heat-related problems, especially among school students. Because of this, the state government decided it was better to close schools early rather than wait for conditions to worsen.

Exams and Official Work Will Continue

Even though schools will close for summer vacation, some important work will continue as planned. Previously scheduled examinations will not be stopped. Census-related duties and other necessary office work will also continue without disruption.

This means that while regular classroom activities will pause, essential academic and administrative work will still go on.

The announcement shows that the Odisha government is taking the heatwave situation seriously. In recent days, rising temperatures have affected normal life in many districts. By starting the school holidays early, the government aims to give relief to students and parents.

Many families are likely to welcome this step, as it helps children stay safe indoors during the hottest part of the day. The move also reflects the government’s effort to respond quickly to weather-related challenges.

Odisha usually faces very hot weather during the summer season, but this year the heatwave has become a major concern earlier than usual. Schools are especially sensitive during such weather because children often travel in the sun and spend long hours outside or in classrooms.

The early vacation announcement is expected to reduce exposure to extreme heat and protect students’ health across the state.

The early closure of schools from April 27, 2026, is an important step by the Odisha government during the ongoing heatwave. While exams and official work will continue, regular classes will stop so that students can stay safe during the intense summer season.

For parents, students, and school staff, this announcement brings clarity and relief as Odisha prepares for the peak of summer.
