Odisha Heatwave: 17 Places Cross 40°C, Jharsuguda Hottest at 44.1°C

Odisha heatwave intensified on Saturday as 17 places recorded above 40 degrees Celsius, with Jharsuguda remaining the hottest in the state.

Odisha heatwave in Jharsuguda as people face extreme summer temperatures under a strong afternoon sun

Odisha heatwave conditions remained severe on Saturday as many parts of the state continued to face extreme summer temperatures. According to weather reports, 17 places in Odisha recorded 40 degrees Celsius or more during the day.

Odisha heatwave in many districts

Jharsuguda was the hottest place in the state for the second day in a row, with the temperature reaching 44.1 degrees Celsius. Titilagarh followed closely at 44 degrees Celsius. On the previous day, Jharsuguda had recorded 44.8 degrees Celsius, while Titilagarh stayed at 44 degrees Celsius.

Several other places also reported very high temperatures. Balangir recorded 43.5 degrees Celsius, Nuapada 43 degrees Celsius, and Sundargarh 42.8 degrees Celsius, Sambalpur, Hirakud, and Rourkela each saw 42.6 degrees Celsius, while Sonepur recorded 42.3 degrees Celsius.

Bhawanipatna and Boudh reported 42 degrees Celsius each. Angul recorded 41.7 degrees Celsius, Talcher 41.2 degrees Celsius, and Bargarh 41 degrees Celsius. Malkangiri saw 40.6 degrees Celsius, Phulbani 40.1 degrees Celsius, and Paralakhemundi 40 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Centre said that during the next seven days, some districts may receive thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening. These storms may come with lightning and gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph. Districts likely to be affected include Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Rayagada, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Malkangiri.

At the same time, hot and humid weather is expected to continue in several districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Jharsuguda, Balangir, Sambalpur, and Angul.

A yellow warning has been issued for these areas, asking people to stay careful during the heat.

People are advised to avoid direct sun in the afternoon, drink plenty of water, and take extra care of children, older people, and those working outside.
