Paradip port is making Odisha proud with strong performance, rising national importance, and a future full of opportunity. In FY 2025-26, Paradip Port handled a record 156.45 million metric tonnes of cargo, which was a 4.01% increase over the previous year and its best performance since 1966 According to India Shipping News. This achievement is not just a number. It is a symbol of Odisha’s growing strength in trade, industry, and infrastructure.

  • Why this matters for Odisha

For the people of Odisha, this success feels personal. Paradip has become a name that stands for hard work, planning, and progress. When a port in our state reaches such a major national milestone, it sends a powerful message that Odisha is not standing behind anyone. Odisha is moving forward with confidence.

Paradip port sets a new record

The biggest recent achievement of Paradip Port is its record cargo handling of 156.45 MMT in FY 2025-26. Before this, the port had already set a strong benchmark in FY 2024-25 by handling 150.41 MMT of cargo. This means the port has not grown for just one year. It has shown steady improvement and strong momentum over time.

The official achievements also show how efficiently the port has been working. In FY 2024-25, Paradip Port recorded 7.43 lakh metric tonnes of cargo handling in a single day and achieved 34,303 metric tonnes output per ship berth day. These numbers matter because they show both high volume and better productivity. A port grows not only by handling more cargo, but also by doing the work faster and smarter.

This performance has helped Paradip Port maintain its leadership position among major ports on India’s eastern coast. For Odisha, this is a matter of pride because it shows that our state is becoming a stronger centre for maritime trade and logistics. A strong port creates a strong image, and Paradip is now carrying Odisha’s image higher on the national map.

Upcoming development

The future plans of Paradip Port are just as exciting as its recent achievement. One of the most important projects is the Western Dock development, which is designed for 25 MTPA capacity and will be able to handle Cape-size vessels. This project is expected to significantly increase the port’s ability to serve larger ships and bigger cargo volumes.

Another major development is the approval of a green hydrogen and ammonia jetty at Paradip Port. The project has been cleared with an estimated cost of ₹797 crore and is planned for 4 MTPA capacity PIB press release said. This is a very important step because it links Paradip Port to India’s clean energy future and places Odisha in a strong position in the emerging green fuel economy.

Paradip Port is also working toward full mechanisation of all berths before 2030. This means cargo operations can become faster, cleaner, and more efficient in the coming years. In today’s world, ports must compete on speed, technology, and reliability, and this plan shows that Paradip is preparing seriously for that future.

Beyond these projects, long-term expansion plans linked to the Paradip region include the proposed Bahuda satellite port and improvements in rail and road connectivity. These plans show that the vision is not limited to one terminal or one berth. The larger goal is to build a stronger maritime and industrial ecosystem around Paradip that supports Odisha’s wider development.

Why this matters for Odisha

A growing port brings more than cargo movement. It supports industry, trade, transport, and business confidence. When Paradip Port grows, its impact can be felt in many parts of Odisha through stronger supply chains, better industrial support, and more economic activity connected to the coast.

This is why people of Odisha have every reason to feel proud. Paradip Port is not only serving ships and cargo; it is also showing what Odisha can achieve with vision and execution. The record of 156.45 MMT and the new green and infrastructure projects together show that our state is ready for bigger opportunities.

There is also an important emotional side to this story. For many years, Odisha’s contribution was often discussed less than it deserved. Now, with Paradip Port reaching new records and planning major future investments, Odisha’s voice is becoming stronger in the national development story. This is the kind of progress that inspires confidence among students, workers, business owners, and young dreamers across the state.

Paradip Port today stands as a shining example of what Odisha can build and lead. Its record cargo handling in FY 2025-26, its earlier 150.41 MMT milestone, and its major upcoming projects show that this is not a temporary success story but part of a bigger journey. From cargo records to green hydrogen infrastructure, Paradip is growing in both scale and vision.

For Odisha, this is a proud moment. Paradip Port is proving that our state has the strength, location, talent, and ambition to play a major role in India’s future. If this growth continues in the same direction, Paradip will not only remain a top port of the east coast but may become one of the strongest symbols of Odisha’s modern progress.
